Claude Monet – (1840-1926) Spiaggia to Sainte-Address
Poem by Mario Bonora
‘ ‘ GIFT ME THE SEA! ′′
A piece of music slides slow
from pages full of notes
Older perfumes of the time
They dance around us, I listen.
You paint me in words your singing
telling me about you tonight.
One evening dressed in shy lights
a sea I feel near
sand caressed by the wave
Carefully leaned lace.
Tell me I listen.
Paint your memories for me
will hang them in my heart.
The breeze takes me far in time,
that time passed in an instant
fast as the flash
that lightens up the night
you paint my breaths
you give me sand
write my name down
you speak it to the waves
you spread it in the gentle wind
companion of tonight
gift me the sea.
You must have had sunsets and auroras.
The poet has nothing,
In exchange for such a gift,
only his soul,
puts it in the middle of your heart.
Give me the wave
I will give you the wind.
With my thoughts
I’ll weave a mantle
I will use precious rocks
embellished shells
to highlight this moment
Be my porti with tea.
I’ll give you the sea
the wind, the sand,
embellished by wave embroidery.
Tell me about you when you were a child.
